What is Jobscan?
Jobscan is an ATS resume checker. You give it your resume and a job description, and it shows a match rate plus the skills and keywords the posting asks for that your resume does not mention. It is one of the best known tools in this category, and over the years it has grown into a full job search suite with AI rewriting, a LinkedIn optimizer and a cover letter generator.

How Jobscan works
You upload your resume (PDF or DOCX) and paste a job description. Jobscan returns a Match Report with:
- A match rate, shown as a percentage
- The hard skills and soft skills from the posting, marked found or missing
- Formatting and ATS tips; Jobscan says its scanner runs 30+ checks on your resume
- Recruiter tips on things like section headings and length
Jobscan is honest about what that number means. In its own words: "when you submit your resume to a job, the ATS doesn't score your resume. The match rate in our scanner is a visualization tool to help you measure the strength of your resume before you apply." That is true of every checker, ATSAlign included. No outside tool can see how a particular employer has set up its ATS.

Both paid plans are subscriptions that renew until you cancel. Jobscan says you can cancel any time, the quarterly plan starts with a 30 day trial, the monthly plan has no trial, and US sales tax is added based on your billing address. Prices can change, so check Jobscan's plan page before you buy.
What Jobscan does well
The Match Report is clear. Found and missing skills are laid out side by side, so the obvious gaps jump out in seconds.
It covers more than the resume. Jobscan includes a LinkedIn optimization tool and a cover letter generator, which is useful if you want one product for the whole search.
AI Optimize closes the loop. Jobscan describes AI Optimize as a way to "automatically apply the missing keywords, no manual editing required." Read what it changes before you send it: any tool that adds keywords can add one you cannot back up in an interview.
It is upfront about limits. The quote above, that the ATS does not score your resume, is more candid than a lot of marketing in this space.
Where Jobscan falls short
The free plan runs out fast. Five scans a month is enough to try the tool. During an active search, when you tailor a resume to several postings a week and re-scan after each edit, it is gone in days.
The paid plans are subscriptions. A job search tends to last a few weeks or a few months. With a subscription you keep paying until you remember to cancel, whether you applied to two jobs that month or twenty.
The match rate is a proxy. It measures keyword overlap with the posting you pasted. It cannot tell you how an employer's Workday, Taleo or Greenhouse setup will parse or rank your resume.

The honest summary: Jobscan does more, especially around LinkedIn. ATSAlign is built for the narrower job of checking a resume against a posting and fixing the gaps, without a subscription.
Who should pay for Jobscan?
Jobscan is worth paying for if:
- You are a career coach, recruiter or resume writer who scans resumes for other people all year. A subscription earns its keep when you use it every week.
- You want one tool for resume, LinkedIn and cover letters and are happy to pay monthly for that convenience.
- You are in a long, high volume search, applying to many roles a week for several months, and you will use the scans.
You probably do not need to pay for Jobscan if:
- You are applying to a handful of roles. Five free scans a month, plus a free daily check elsewhere, may cover you.
- Your search will last a few weeks. Paying once for a fixed period avoids a renewal you forget to cancel.
- You mainly want the list of missing keywords. Several tools, ATSAlign included, show a free match score every day.
If you are job hunting in India
Everything above applies in India too, with a few extra points.
Pricing is in US dollars. As a rough guide, at the European Central Bank reference rate on October 9, 2026 (₹96.73 to the dollar), the monthly plan is about ₹4,830 and the quarterly plan about ₹8,700. If Jobscan shows you a price in rupees, that price is the one that applies, and your card may add its own foreign currency charges. That is a lot for a fresher or an early career candidate.
The five free scans go quickly. Applying through Naukri, LinkedIn India, IIMJobs and company career portals usually means many applications in a short time, so the free limit runs out early.
Jobscan's guides are written mostly for US hiring. Its examples and advice center on US employers and their systems. The core keyword match still works on any English job description, including a Naukri listing, but you will not find India specific guidance.
