Taleo is one of the oldest enterprise hiring systems still in heavy use, and it shows. Many large Fortune 500 employers run it, and its parser was built in an era when a resume was expected to look one specific way. It does not forgive much. Where a newer system might shrug off a two column layout, Taleo can quietly mangle it. So the goal with Taleo is not clever, it is careful. You want the plainest, most readable version of your resume that still says everything it needs to.
Taleo looks for exact, expected headings. Write Work Experience, not My Journey. Write Education, not Where I Learned. Write Skills, not What I Bring. When you get creative with a heading, Taleo may fail to file that whole block into the right field. The cruel part is what happens next. If an employer requires a bachelor's degree and Taleo never extracted your education because the section was named something unusual, you can be screened out while holding the exact qualification they asked for. Boring headings are not a weakness here. They are protection.
Send a DOCX. Taleo's PDF handling is one of its weakest spots and often pulls text out in the wrong order or drops pieces entirely. A simple Word file, single column, standard fonts, normal dates like January 2021, gives the parser the cleanest possible read. Keep tables, text boxes, headers, footers, and graphics out of it. They are the usual reason a perfectly qualified person never makes it into the recruiter's list.
Taleo leans on knockout questions more than most modern systems. These are the yes or no and multiple choice questions that appear around the application, asking things like whether you can work without sponsorship or whether you will relocate. They are absolute filters. Fail one that maps to a hard requirement and you are out instantly, with no human and no resume review. Read each one slowly and answer honestly. A rushed click here wastes a good application.
The checker above shows you the keyword gaps in about a minute. Paste the Taleo job description, upload your resume, and it flags the missing terms and the formatting risks so you can clean them up before a strict parser ever sees your file.
ATSAlign is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Oracle or Taleo, and Taleo is a trademark of its owner. The checker simulates how a strict parser reads and matches a resume so you can catch problems early.
Once you have your ATS score, ATSAlign can automatically rewrite your resume bullet points to match the job description — injecting missing keywords, aligning your language to the JD, and preserving your exact formatting and experience. No manual editing required.

Yes. The check is free with no account or card needed. Paste the Taleo job description, upload your resume, and you get your keyword match and a list of gaps in under a minute.
DOCX is the safer choice. Taleo uses an older, strict parser, and its PDF reader often produces jumbled or incomplete text. A clean Word document with simple formatting gives Taleo the best chance of reading every section correctly.
Usually formatting. Taleo expects exact section headers such as Work Experience, Education, and Skills, plus standard date formats and a single column layout. Creative headings, tables, and columns confuse its parser. If Taleo cannot read your education section because you labeled it something clever, it can screen you out even when you hold the required degree.
Yes. Taleo often shows knockout questions before or during the application, such as whether you have a valid work visa or are willing to relocate. These are pass or fail. Answering in a way that fails a hard requirement can disqualify you instantly, no resume review involved.
No. ATSAlign is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Oracle or Taleo. Taleo is a trademark of its owner. The checker simulates how a strict parser like Taleo reads and keyword matches a resume so you can fix problems before you apply.
Yes. The ATS score analysis is completely free — no account, no credit card, no hidden fees. You get your ATS score, keyword match breakdown, and missing skills instantly. AI-powered optimization (which rewrites your bullet points to match the job description) is available for logged-in users with credits.
A score of 80% or higher is considered ATS-friendly and likely to pass the initial automated screening. Below 60% significantly increases the risk of automatic rejection. Our tool shows you exactly which keywords to add to close the gap.
ATSAlign is trained to replicate the scoring logic used by major ATS platforms including Workday, Taleo, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, and Jobvite. While no external tool can perfectly replicate every proprietary system, our semantic matching and keyword density analysis closely mirrors how real enterprise ATS software evaluates resumes.
DOCX is generally safer for ATS systems. Many older ATS platforms struggle to parse PDFs accurately, especially those with complex formatting. If the job posting does not specify a format, submit a clean, single-column DOCX file for the best ATS compatibility. Our tool accepts both formats so you can test whichever you plan to submit.
Check your ATS score every time you apply to a new role. A resume optimized for one job description may score poorly against a different one because keyword requirements vary by company and role. Tailoring your resume for each application significantly increases your chances of passing the ATS filter.
No account is required for the ATS score analysis. Just upload your resume and paste the job description — you'll get your full score, keyword breakdown, and missing skills instantly. An account is only needed if you want to use the AI optimization feature to automatically improve your resume.
